Calculated Excellence: WSD 4th Graders Sweep Math is Cool Regional Championships

On a snowy March 13, something impressive was happening inside Foothills Middle School — fourth graders from across Wenatchee School District were competing at the highest level, proving that a little winter weather is no match for a motivated mathematician.
All WSD elementary schools were represented at the 4th Grade Math is Cool Regional Championships, the first opportunity for students to participate in this prestigious academic competition. More than 280 students from 25 North Central Washington schools competed across three divisions — Phi (φ), E, and Pi (π). Despite significant weather challenges that pushed one NCW team to an online format in early April, Wenatchee's teams showed up and showed out.
The results speak for themselves.
Team Results
WSD teams competed across all three divisions and brought home top finishes in two of them. In the Phi division, competing against one other team, Sunnyslope Elementary took 1st place and Washington Elementary took 2nd place. In the Pi division, competing against 14 other teams, Valley Academy claimed 1st place — a standout result in the largest and most competitive division of the day.
