Meet the Superintendent
Meet the Superintendent
Superintendent Dr. Kory Kalahar brings over 25 years of educational leadership and a passion for student success, driving excellence and connections throughout our school district.

For the past twenty-five years, I have had the honor of working in the Wenatchee School District in various capacities. I first began my career as an English Language Arts/ Social Studies teacher at Wenatchee High School. While there, I enjoyed building positive and trusting relationships with students, coached debate, and helped out with the Japanese Culture Club. I then moved to the Assistant Principal position, where I focused my attention on school culture, academic interventions, and assessment. In 2011, I was named the Principal of WestSide High School, where I would spend the next ten years cultivating a culture that focused on the whole child. Meeting students where they were and capitalizing on the unique characteristics each student brought to school each day was our goal. In 2021, I made a move to the district office to begin a two-year role as Assistant Executive Director of Learning and Teaching, and it was in this role that I found myself shifting my twenty-two-year career with secondary education to an elementary focus. What an amazing learning experience this was for me.
All of these positions, and my experiences in them, have led me to be the superintendent of the Wenatchee School District. I am excited and honored to step into the Superintendent seat in 2023 to lead our district through its second year of our bold and courageous strategic plan. The Wenatchee School District is a district on a positive trajectory helping each student on their educational journey. It is our promise to help each student emerge future-ready by building a foundation of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will have challenges to face to deliver on this promise, but I am confident that together we will persevere and help each student achieve their full potential.
Growing up in Wenatchee Valley, attending college out of town, and making the conscious decision to move back home after college to start my family and raise my children, has all contributed to my love of the Valley and our community. I knew this was where I wanted to raise my family, just like my parents and grandparents did. My wife, Haylee, owns and operates a small business here in Wenatchee that keeps her busy and connected to our community. Our oldest daughter, Emma, and her husband, Kris, live and work in Maple Valley. Our youngest daughter, Mackenzie, is in her second year as a teacher in the WSD and will be teaching kindergarten at Washington Elementary School. Carson, our youngest, is in the Army Reserves as a Combat Medic and just finished his AA degree at Wenatchee Valley College. He will continue his education in Nursing or Radiation Technology through Wenatchee Valley College.
Thank you so much to the Wenatchee School District and the community of the greater Wenatchee Valley for their support and partnership. Together, we can truly make an impact on the lives of our students through high-quality education.
Warm regards,
Dr. Kory Kalahar
