Health and Safety Sensor

Health and Safety Sensors

A white smoke detector with a green illuminated ring.
The district has installed new health and safety sensors in all middle and high school restrooms. These sensors can detect smoke, vaping, and signs of physical altercations. They will help prevent negative behaviors and ensure timely intervention when needed. This proactive approach will promote a safer, healthier learning environment for all students. These sensors are an important step in our ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of our students. The sensor protects the privacy of individuals as it does not use cameras, record audio, or capture any personally identifiable information.

VAPE AND SMOKING

A red cricket bat icon, angled diagonally. The sensor uses a detection algorithm to automatically learn the environment and alert when smoking and vaping is detected. The sensor can differentiate between smoking, vaping, vaping with THC, and intentionally masking vaping behavior by using aerosols to cover up vaping.

MASKING

Red graphic of a spray can with a bottle inside, spraying a cloud. Is when someone is trying to hide their vaping activity – they will typically spray cologne or other aerosols to cover up the distinguished smell of marijuana or other vaping smells.

TAMPER

A green hammer icon, a symbol of construction and repair. The sensor prevents vandalism and disabling of the sensor by identifying vibrations caused by striking the sensor, throwing things at it, or even moving the ceiling tile the sensor is mounted in.

GUNSHOT

Silhouette of a black handgun against a white background.Using frequency sound patterns and percussion, the sensor can identify gunshots and their location with a 25-ft range and a 360° radius detection.

AGGRESSION

Green silhouette of a person with arms raised, lightning bolts above head.By applying machine learning, the sensor learns what normal sound levels are and alerts when a threshold above normal is detected for a specified length of time.
