Winter Weather Plan
In winter months here's how Wenatchee School District makes decisions about delays and closures — and how to stay informed.

Student Safety Comes First
When weather has the potential to affect safe travel or school operations, our team begins monitoring conditions as early as 4:00 AM. We evaluate:

  • Road conditions along bus routes throughout the district
  • Weather forecasts and real-time conditions
  • Building safety, including heat, power, and water
  • Parking lot and sidewalk conditions at each school
  • On-the-ground reports from transportation and facilities staff

If We Delay: Monday Late Start Schedule
When the weather requires a delay, WSD moves to our Monday Late Start schedule. This gives our transportation fleet time to chain up, allows maintenance staff to clear lots and sidewalks, and helps ensure students and staff can get to school safely.

How You'll Know
We aim to communicate delays or closures by 6:00 AM so families can plan ahead. You'll be notified through:

  • ParentSquare
  • wenatcheeschools.org
  • District social media
  • Local media outlets

Plan Ahead
A few things to take care of before winter weather hits:
✓ Make sure your contact information is current in Skyward

✓ Talk with your student about what to do if school is delayed or closed

✓ Have a backup plan for supervision in case of an unexpected closure

We Know This Is Disruptive
We understand delays and closures affect work schedules and family plans. These decisions are never made lightly — student and staff safety always comes first.
