Homeless Assistance

Homeless Assistance (McKinney-Vento)

Housing instability should never stand between a student and their education. The Wenatchee School District's Homeless Education Program ensures that students experiencing homelessness or temporary housing situations have consistent access to school, support, and the resources they need to succeed.

McKinney-Vento Act

The McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures immediate enrollment and educational stability for homeless children and youth. McKinney-Vento provides federal funding to states for the purpose of supporting district programs that serve homeless students.

Who we serve

We serve students in a variety of situations, including those sharing housing due to hardship, living in motels, shelters, or transitional housing, or residing in places not meant for permanent shelter — such as cars, parks, or abandoned buildings. Migratory and unaccompanied youth are also fully supported through this program.

Every student we serve has the right to full participation in school — including sports and extracurricular activities. In partnership with local community agencies, we work to connect students and families with referrals and support that go beyond the classroom, ensuring educational stability no matter what a family is facing.

If you or someone you know may qualify for support, please reach out — we are here to help.

Our goal is to ensure that students are able to fully participate in school. Including participation in school-related extracurricular activities and sports.

We value our community partners. Our program collaborates with community agencies to assist and refer families and unaccompanied youth. All with the goal of ensuring educational stability for students in short-term/temporary and transitional/homeless housing situations.
