The Wenatchee School District’s Safety and Risk Management department received a $5000 safety incentive award for successfully completing the North Central Washington Educational Service District (ESD) Workers’ Comp Safety Incentive Program.

The ESD piloted the safety program during the 2017-2018 school year to reduce slip, trip, fall incident as well as increase awareness and elevate the importance of safety committees. Throughout the school year a total of three assessments were completed in each of these areas, either by district staff, ESD Loss Control Specialist or a team of both. Participants were required to receive at least an 85% score of better meeting the program criteria in order to receive the incentive funds.

Superintendent Brian Flones accepted the award during the August 14 Wenatchee School Board meeting. “I want to recognize and congratulate the outstanding staff and educators in the buildings that helped Wenatchee School District be in compliance," said North Central Educational Service District loss control specialist Paul Harrison. “ It takes everyone to make buildings safe for learning.”

The funds will be used to improve and enhance safety measures in the District including the purchase of the following items;

  • Trip prevention devices for extension cords (cord covers)
  • Outlet surge protector power strips with extra long cords
  • Faucet mounted eyewash stations
  • Ladder label kits (OSHA labels)
  • Additional ladders and step stools
