YMCA Takes Over Sunnyslope Elementary Child Care Program

Child care at Sunnyslope Elementary will have a new look this school year. The Wenatchee Valley YMCA will be assuming operations of The Student Care program which will offer services before and after school Monday - Friday. Childcare will begin on the Wednesday, August 29 (the first day of school) for K-5 students at Sunnyslope.

Before Care starts as early as 6:30am until the bell rings. After Care starts at the bell and ends at 6 p.m. Rates are established by the Wenatchee School District, however, YMCA members are eligible for discount. Prices are listed on the registration form.

YMCA staff are trained and will be certified through the state, along with various child safety training required by the YMCA. The Student Care program is currently an unlicensed care program applying for state licensing. The YMCA serves children in grades K-5th (through 12 years of age) meeting all state, local and YMCA standards of excellence.

The YMCA staff use creative, after-school enrichment curriculum including STEAM activities. “We are really proud of our offerings and can’t wait to extend them to Wenatchee schools,” said Dorry Foster, Wenatchee Valley YMCA chief executive officer.

“We’re excited to partner with such a reputable organization as the Wenatchee Valley YMCA. They’ve been providing outstanding service to the Eastmont School District and we’ve only heard only good things,” said Mark Helm, Wenatchee School District Assistant Superintendent.

Once fully licensed the YMCA will be able to expand services to include care on non-school days including school breaks. “This will be a huge benefit to families. We know it’s hard to coordinate care on those days and the YMCA will be able to fill that need with enriching experiences for kids,” Helm said.

The Wenatchee School District is in the process of evaluating all current before and after school childcare offerings across the District and is exploring other community partnerships that may enhance those services.

Student Care program registration is now open for 2018-2019 school year. Registration forms, immunization information, and a parent handbook are available at http://wenymca.org/student-care-at-sunnyslope/
