November 26th School Board Meeting Focuses on Reorganizing

November 26th School Board Meeting Focuses on Reorganizing

Newly elected Wenatchee School District Board member Martin Barron and re-elected Board member Laura Jaecks will be sworn into office during the school board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, November 26 at 6 p.m. Barron replaces out-going school board president, Sunny Hemphill for position #3. Chelan County Superior Court Judge Kristin Ferrera will preside over the oath of office ceremony.

A special welcome reception for Barron and Jaecks will be held prior to the board meeting from 5:30-6:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Both the meeting and reception will be held in the main board room at the Wenatchee School District office, 235 Sunset Ave.

Tim Larson, who won the election for seat #2 against incumbent Dr. Karina Vega-Villa, has reportedly chosen not to take the oath of office and will read a statement prior to the start of the board meeting. The board will then accept his resignation and declare seat #2 open.

The Board will elect new officers during the meeting on Tuesday and establish a timeline for filling Sarah Knox’s recently vacated seat #5 and Larson’s seat #2. Knox resigned from her post earlier this month to take a job in the Seattle area. Applications for the open board positions are available in English and Spanish on the District’s website wenatcheeschools.org. Paper applications can be obtained at the District office, 235 Sunset Ave.

At the conclusion of the regular meeting, the Board will recess into Executive Session for a period of 45 minutes to consider the minimum price at which real estate will be offered for sale or lease when public knowledge regarding such consideration would cause a likelihood of decreased price.

Pursuant to District Policy No. 1410 and RCW 42.30.110, this discussion will be closed to the public.  The Board is not expected to take final action following the Executive Session.
