January 14 School Board Meeting Information

The Wenatchee School District Board of Directors will hold a special meeting starting at noon on Tuesday. This meeting will include an open session, executive session and will return to open session. Later that evening, the board will hold a reception at 5:30 p.m., a regular meeting at 6:00 p.m., and an executive session at the conclusion of the regular meeting.  All meetings will take place at the District’s central office, 235 Sunset Ave, Wenatchee.

Special Meeting
12:00 PM
Open Session
The purpose of the special open session is for board appointed candidate Julie Norton to take the oath of office. The board will take action on a resolution to assign position #5 to Julie Norton.

Executive Session
The purpose of the executive session is to evaluate the qualifications of a candidate for appointment to the board. Due to the highly unusual circumstances of appointing two board members at one time and upon further review of the board’s policy and in consultation with district legal counsel, it was determined that there needed to be at least three yes votes for a candidate to be appointed. Candidate Maria Iñiguez received a 2-1 vote during the board’s January 9th special meeting. Only three board members were seated on the five-person board at the time. The board will enter into an executive session to review and discuss the qualifications of the remaining six board candidates, including Iñiguez. The executive session is expected to last 45 minutes.

Open session
Upon completion of the executive session, the board will enter into open session at which time it is expected that there will be a motion to appoint a candidate to fill the remaining vacancy on the board. The motion must be approved by a minimum of three board members.

The board will take action on a resolution to assign position #2 to the newly appointed board member.

Reception
5:30 PM
A special reception for the two newly appointed board members will be held starting at 5:30 p.m.

Regular Meeting
6:00 PM
The appointed candidate for position #2 will take the oath of office during the regular board meeting. Chelan County Superior Court Judge Lesley A. Allan to preside.

Executive Session
Pursuant to District Policy No. 1410 and RCW 42.30.110, this discussion will be closed to the public. The purpose of the executive session is to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment or to review the performance of a public employee. The session is expected to last 20 minutes and no action will be taken.
