Godina honored with statewide migrant recruiter of the year award

The Wenatchee School District is pleased to announce that Teresa Godina was chosen to receive the Washington State Migrant Education Program’s “Recruiter of the Year” award. This fall marks Godina’s eighth year as the Wenatchee School District’s migrant recruiter. She has a total of 12 years in migrant education including time as a family advocate.

As part of her work Godina seeks out and identifies students who potentially qualify for services. Over the years she has developed strong relationships with families and local employers to deliver on the mission of the Migrant Education Program to meet the unique needs of migratory children and their families to ensure that migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate high school. 

Godina is no stranger to the experience of migrant students. Thirty years ago, she was in the shoes of these families as she arrived in Wenatchee from Mexico with her oldest son. From personal experience, Godina knows that when families have support from school personnel, parents feel more confident in approaching schools and get more involved in the education and success of their children. She says the most rewarding part of her job as a recruiter is being able to help migrant families and watch them celebrate their children's academic success. 

Upon learning of the honor Godina said, “I feel very grateful for receiving this award. I also feel fortunate enough to work in a department where the priority is to give the best service to the families and provide them with tools for the success of their children. This award not only goes to me but also to the Wenatchee School District Migrant and Bilingual Team.”

Godina was recognized by the state’s Migrant Education Program during a virtual awards ceremony on August 19, 2021.

Godina honrada con el premio del año como reclutadora Migrante al nivel Estatal 

El Distrito Escolar de Wenatchee se complace en anunciar que Teresa Godina fue elegida para recibir el premio "Reclutador del Año" del Programa de Educación Migrante del Estado de Washington. Este otoño marca el octavo año de Godina como reclutadora de migrantes del Distrito Escolar de Wenatchee. Tiene un total de 12 años en educación migrante, incluido el tiempo como Abogante de Familia.

Como parte de su trabajo, Godina busca e identifica a los estudiantes que potencialmente califican para los servicios. A lo largo de los años, ha desarrollado relaciones sólidas con familias y empleadores locales para cumplir con la misión del Programa de Educación Migrante de satisfacer las necesidades únicas de los niños migratorios y sus familias para garantizar que los estudiantes migrantes alcancen estándares académicos desafiantes y se gradúen de la escuela preparatoria. 

Godina no es ajena a la experiencia de los estudiantes migrantes. Hace treinta años, estuvo en la misma situación que estas familias cuando llegó a Wenatchee desde México con su hijo mayor. Por experiencia personal, Godina sabe que cuando las familias cuentan con el apoyo del personal de la escuela, los padres se sienten más seguros al acercarse a las escuelas y se involucran más en la educación y el éxito de sus hijos. Ella dice que la parte más gratificante de su trabajo como reclutadora es poder ayudar a las familias migrantes y verlas celebrar el éxito académico de sus hijos. 

Al enterarse del honor, Godina dijo: “Me siento muy agradecida por recibir este premio. También me siento afortunado de trabajar en un departamento donde la prioridad es brindar el mejor servicio a las familias y brindarles herramientas para el éxito de sus hijos. Este premio no solo es para mí, sino también para el Equipo Bilingüe y Migrante del Distrito Escolar de Wenatchee ”.

Godina fue reconocida por el Programa de Educación Migrante del estado durante una ceremonia virtual de premios el 19 de agosto de 2021.
