Hugo Zavala Named 2022 ATDLE Teacher of the Year

Hugo Zavala

The Association of Two-Way and Dual Language Education (ATDLE) selected Hugo Zavala as the 2022 ATDLE Teacher of the Year. Zavala is a 4th-grade Science and Spanish Language Arts teacher at Lewis & Clark Elementary Wenatchee School District’s Spanish dual-language school. Zavala has been a teacher for 11 years and was selected by a panel of ADLT board members for his commitment to students, the community, and the Dual Language profession.

ATDLE was formed into a national organization in 2013 and offers professional training and technical support to Two way bilingual and Dual Language throughout the country. According to ATDLE, there are over 2000 Dual Language and Two-Way Bilingual Immersion programs in the country.

“My experience in school in the States as a language learner gave me a first-hand understanding of the multiple challenges language learners face. With support from dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and hard work, I am fulfilling my dream of teaching to inspire language learners like myself,” said Zavala.

The award will be presented to Zavala on June 28, 2022, as part of the 30th National Two-Way Conference Award Luncheon in Riverside California.
