District Plans to Break Ground on Girls Softball Field this Spring

District Plans to Break Ground on Girls Softball Field this Spring

The Wenatchee School District has unveiled plans for the construction of a girls' softball field at Triangle Park. After consulting with experts, stakeholders, and district maintenance and operations staff, the district selected this location. The project is scheduled to break ground in April and be completed by August 2024. The project will also include the construction of two side-by-side multipurpose soccer and football fields at Triangle Park.

Wenatchee School District has hired the construction management firm Turner and Townsend Heery to manage the project. During the September 26th regular school board meeting, Rob Gross, the District’s project manager from Turner and Townsend Heery presented an overview of the scope of the project to the board, which included a timeline and renderings of the softball complex and adjacent multipurpose field. Gross brings over 30 years of experience managing similar projects and has been the project manager on both athletic and school facility projects in Eastern Washington. Gross expressed confidence in completing the project by August 2024 and in the quality of contractors who will bid on the work. In October, the design phase will begin, which will include the formation of a facilities committee, with representatives from various stakeholder groups, including student-athletes.

The work at Triangle Park will consist of decommissioning two existing softball fields on the property. Construction of a varsity softball field on the park's southwest corner and new soccer and football fields in the north corner. A heavily utilized school athletic and community facility, the upgrades to Triangle Park will be a much-needed improvement and will accommodate both school and community user groups.

“We’re eager to begin the work and deliver on our commitment to provide equitable and high-quality athletic facilities for student-athletes and our community,” said Wenatchee Superintendent Dr. Kory Kalahar.

The school board earmarked $4 million for the project to address Title IX compliance concerns and resolve the district's voluntary resolution agreement with the Office of Civil Rights.

The softball field complex will include:

  • Regulation fastpitch softball field
  • Synthetic turf infield
  • 25+ capacity bleachers
  • Pressbox + scoreboard
  • Bullpens and dugouts
  • Reconfigured football and soccer fields
  • New sodded grass
  • New permanents goals
  • Painted field markings
  • Automatic irrigation system
  • Turf maintenance equipment
  • Renovation of support spaces (concessions, bathrooms, custodial)
  • Driveway and parking reconfigured
